Membership of Maleya is open to the representatives of all indigenous peoples’ organizations of Bangladesh that registered with an appropriate government agency.
The General Council, consisting of all members of Maleya, is the highest policy making body. It is responsible for reviewing and approving plans, budget and strategies, programmes, etc. and can amend the constitution if so required. It elects the Executive Committee from among its General Council members for a specific term.
The Executive Committee consists of seven (7) members and is elected by the general council for a period of three (3) years, and is responsible for the execution of projects and programmes. The major responsibilities of the Executive Committee are to implement the resolutions of the General Council and those of the Executive Committee, including Action Plans, if any; and to formulate Staff Policy, Finance Policy, Action Plans and other Policy and Administrative rules, guidelines and directions to be followed by the staff appointed by the Executive Committee. The staff is responsible for the implementation of projects, programmes and day-to-day activities under the leadership of the Director. The staff of Maleya reports to the Executive Committee.
