Human Rights

Objectives:-

The primary objective of this programme is to facilitate greater accountability of the concerned agencies in protecting and promoting human rights, including measures against the culture of impunity l. Moreover, Maleya also does advocacy and capacity-raising work on inclusion and participation, and promotion of policy reform and policy implementation at national levels.

 

Maleya is presently conducting the following major activities under this programme:

 

· Conducting Training and Awareness Raising workshops on indigenous peoples’ human rights, including UNDRIP, National, Regional and Local Laws & Policies;

          

· Monitoring Human Rights Violations against indigenous peoples;

        

· Submission of reports to various human rights mechanisms, including CEDAW, Universal Periodic Review (UPR) (Human Rights Council) & others;

        

· Participation in and support to participants at the sessions of the UN Permanent Forum on Indigenous Issues, Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples and Human Rights Council, among others;

        

· Support to various indigenous peoples’ and civil society organizations, including the Chittagong Hill Tracts Citizen’s Committee (CHT-CC);

        

· Support to the members of Bangladesh Indigenous Peoples Working Group on Food Security (BIWGFS) to organize trainings and workshops and advocacy on Food Security issues of indigenous peoples at local, national and international level;

        

· Publications on thematic advocacy papers to facilitate coordinated efforts among indigenous peoples’ organizations of Bangladesh at national and international levels; and         

·  Publications on indigenous peoples’ rights.
